In 2009, 493 WNY AmeriCorps members served across Western and Central New York. With the City of Buffalo acting as WNY AmeriCorps’ primary impact area, members also served in Niagara Falls, Angola, Ithaca, and Albany. Our members served 386,126 hours at 164 non-profit organizations and schools, achieving an impressive list of accomplishments:
- 20,904 volunteers were recruited, who provided 116,258 hours of service to the community worth almost 2.5 Million dollars
- 468 individual service projects were designed and implemented for neighborhood improvements
- 103,344 children in needy communities were served
- 144 homes and buildings were constructed, partially reconstructed, or renovated
- Over 4.5 Million pounds of food were distributed to 39,836 low-income families
- 81,963 families and 205,352 individuals were served
- Over 4.7 Million dollars in cash and in-kind resources were raised by our AmeriCorps programs
- 164 non-profit organizations received vital support from WNY AmeriCorps members
